The learned Government Advocate (Criminal Side) appearing for the respondents, on instructions, submitted that an FIR has already been registered in Crime No.613 of 2023 for the offences under Sections 406, 420 of the IPC, Section 4(1) r/w 76(1) of the Chit Funds Act 1982 and Section 3 r/w 4 of the prize chits and money Circulation Schemes (Banning) Act 1978, relating to savings scheme fraud wherein a total of 642 persons were allegedly cheated.

The case was initially pending on the file of the Inspector of Police, Cheyyar Police Station. Subsequently, the investigation was transferred to the file of the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Economic Offences Wing, Tiruvannamali District, and the case has been re-registered as Crime No.01 of 2024 by incorporating offences under the provisions of the Tamil Nadu Protection of Interests of Depositors (in Financial Establishments) Act, 1997 (TNPID Act). 3. Recording the aforesaid submission made by the learned Government Advocate (Criminal Side), these writ petitions stand closed. However, the third respondent, namely, the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Economic Offences Wing, Tiruvannamali District, is directed to complete the investigation and file a final report before the jurisdictional Court, as expeditiously as possible, preferably within a period of twelve (12) weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order. https://www.mhc.tn.gov.in/judis WP Nos.19837, 19838, 19839, 19842 & 19843 of 2025__________Page5 of 64.

It is needless to state that the third respondent shall also identify and secure the properties / assets of the accused persons, if any, and take appropriate steps in accordance with law, including informing the competent Government Authorities for initiating proceedings for attachment and recovery in the manner known to law.
