JUSTICE WASIM SADIQ NARGAL, JUDGE ORDER The petitioner seeks a direction to respondents 1 to 4 to provide her the police protection as she apprehends danger to her life as well as her husband, namely, Dimple Singh from respondents No. 5 to 7. It is submitted that the petitioner is a major and out of her free will, she got married. Copy of Marriage Agreement dated 24.02.2023 has been placed on record. She submit that since She has contracted the marriage against the wishes of respondents No. 5 to 7, as such, she is facing harassment at their hands. The petitioner, in support of her date of birth as well as her husband, has placed on record DOB certificates issued by the J&K State Board of School Education.
Learned counsel for the petitioner refers to the decision of the Supreme Court in Lata Singh v. State of U.P. and anr., 2006 (5) SCC 475, and submits that in absence of there being any legal impediment, the petitioner is entitled to marry according to her choice and the official respondents are duty bound to protect the life and liberty of the petitioner. 2 WP(C) No. 2096/2023
Any person having attained the age of majority is entitled to contract the marriage as per his/her wishes and the police department is duty bound to protect the life and liberty, if approached. However, it appears that the petitioner has not ever approached the official respondents for their indulgence in the matter for providing protection to them.

In this view of the matter, this petition is disposed of, at this stage, by providing that the respondents No. 1 to 4 shall look into the grievance of the petitioner for providing her adequate security and to ensure that nobody interferes in her married life, if she approaches them.
